My earliest memories of music stem from learning to play the piano. My parents insisted that I have a “musical base” in my life, even though practicing the instrument became a constant battle between us. A few years later I saw a harpist perform for the first time and I was in awe. I just knew that harp was the perfect musical instrument for me. In an act of faith (considering my piano practicing habits left something to be desired), my parents bought a harp and found a teacher for me. I was so thrilled to begin lessons, and shocked when my teacher insisted I continue to learn the piano as well. The piano truly became a strong foundation and a springboard for my studies in harp. I put everything I had into practicing harp and was soon competing at the state level. I continued my studies throughout college, and 26 years later the harp is simply a part of who I am. I have played for countless weddings, funerals, corporate events, and religious ceremonies - but my favorite place to play is in my own living room for my family. Playing the harp is never a chore, but a release. Sharing my love of music with others brings joy and happiness to my life.
